This set of blog posts will discuss
Governor Brown’s decision in 2011-2012 to cancel redevelopment agencies and then to
invest in climate change protections. I will argue that it was a foolish
choice, based on the values involved, and the waste of money as an investment. But all is not lost; there's a common ground.
Here’s an executive summary of the
next chapters:
- Climate change is a potential, long term problem; affordable housing is a present, definite problem
- Building real estate for the working class provides solid and significant benefits; investment in climate change provides hypothetical returns.
- Smart affordable housing will help reduce carbon emissions more than other investment in climate change.
- Investing in affordable housing is a better investment than spending on climate change protections.
